Green fluorapophyllite, coloured by trace vanadium, forms blocky to prismatic crystals here with a characteristic vitreous lustre that ranges from mint to seafoam depending on the angle of light. The crystals grow directly from a cavity in dense black vesicular basalt — the volcanic host rock of Maharashtra's Deccan Traps, one of Earth's largest flood-basalt provinces, extruded across western India roughly 66 million years ago. Creamy stilbite laths fringe the cluster, a classic zeolite companion mineral that crystallised from the same slow-cooling hydrothermal fluids. The specimen's basalt base has been ground flat and set on a separate hand-cut basalt pedestal — a presentation technique used by artisanal miners of the Shaikh family lineage, whose generations of work in Maharashtra's basalt quarries supply specimens of exactly this assemblage to collectors. The result is a ready-to-display piece presented on its own cut-basalt stand; the green crystal pocket itself is untouched natural growth.
