Botryoidal Chalcedony Slab on Basalt
Botryoidal chalcedony grows when silica gel precipitates rapidly from solution, producing rounded grape-like nodules rather than flat crystal faces. Here, successive generations of white spherules sit atop a finer lavender-grey microcrystalline chalcedony groundmass, all anchored to a slab of dark Deccan Traps basalt. The muted purple-grey tones are typical of chalcedony from Maharashtra's zeolite-bearing amygdaloidal basalts, where trace manganese or iron can impart subtle colour. The slab has been cut and its basalt back trimmed flat to expose the botryoidal interior, leaving a stable base for free-standing display. Hand-collected by the Shaikh family from the ancient lava flows of Maharashtra.
